We celebrate women in style!
A great bunch of women – both members and supporters – met to celebrate International Women's Day in the evening of Friday 8th March.
The Labour Hall in Biggleswade was appropriately decorated in the Suffragette colours of lilac, green and white for the occasion – a presentation by local Party member Laura Noakes, followed by the screening of 'Suffragette' a costume period drama filmed in 2015.
Laura, a PhD student studying women's suffrage, gave an inspiring talk entitled: 'The Shrieking Sisterhood: Suffragists, Suffragettes and the fight for women's votes'. This was followed by readings from some of the women in the room, then a screening of Suffragette (2015), the first film ever to be shot in the Houses of Parliament and starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep.
