Jenni Jackson stands for Bedford Borough…

We are delighted to announce that Jenni Jackson, our CLP Vice-Chair and N Beds Branch Secretary, has been selected as Labour’s candidate for the Bedford Borough Mayoral election this May, following a ballot of over 1,000 members of the Labour Party in Bedford Borough.

Jenni, a former Borough Councillor, runs a small business and has lived in Bedford for nearly 45 years, bringing up four sons here.

Speaking after the result was announced, Jenni said: “I believe Bedford Borough needs a new Mayor with the skills and experience to fight for the best for every resident. I’ve lived and worked in and around Bedford for nearly 45 years now, experienced both town and village life and run my own small business.

She continued, “Being Mayor requires working at top level with regional bodies and business leaders to bring growth to Bedford Borough’s economy. It means liaising with MPs and ministers, juggling political situations and presenting a positive image of the council externally. Our services and communities have suffered a decade of austerity imposed by the Tories. Only a Labour Mayor will deliver a radical agenda for the many, not the few."

Jenni hopes to meet as many residents and organisation as possible before the election.

She said: "I'm a team player and it is my sincere hope that I can work together with the whole Labour team to change our Borough to one that delivers for local people.”
